As you can imagine we have been inundated with enquiries from customers regarding holidays booked with Thomas Cook.
Since 2001, we have traded via the Freedom Travel Group who have provided our systems, ABTA and ATOL licenses. When we originally joined The Freedom Travel Group, the business was owned and run by United Co-Operative. In recent years the Freedom Travel Group was merged with Thomas Cook, but has run as a separate independent business.
Following the news this morning that Thomas Cook have entered administration, we have found ourselves at Avista Travel, along with a few hundred other independently successful travel agencies in uncharted waters. We are now looking at our options, forward bookings and customers who are away at the moment, to work out a plan of action.
We will not be taking any new bookings for the next few days, whilst we asses the situation and deal with customers who were due to travel with Thomas Cook.
We are working through bookings that are departing, in date order to calculate the effect on future travel arrangements. As I am sure you will understand this is shocking news and blow to our business, through no fault of our own.
Rest assured we will do everything possible to make the process as smooth as possible for all our valued clients, please understand Avista Travel is not in administration and we are hoping to have our new licences in place shortly.
